The Corpse Party series is a bit confusing if you’re a newcomer. The first game in the series, originally launched in the mid-’90s, has been remade\/re-released a ridiculous amount of times. There’s a sequel that isn’t a sequel but also is one (it’s literally called Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient<\/a>). But now, what you need to know is the Heavenly Host saga. It begins with Corpse Party<\/a>, continues with Corpse Party: Book of Shadows<\/a>, and ended with Corpse Party: Blood Drive<\/a>. But then enters Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion. In August 2020, the Mages. YouTube channel released a video of the Heavenly Host saga timeline, with the end stating “202X,” “Darkness Distortion,” and “More Corpse…” The game was officially announced last August, but there wasn’t a ton more to know until today past the possible Heavenly Host link until today. But good news! Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion will be released later this year. Worldwide. Digitally and<\/i> physically. And there’s a proper announcement trailer to boot!<\/p>\n

Here’s the kicker, though. Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion returns to the franchise, yes… but with new characters, a new setting, and a new curse. It is specifically described as a standalone adventure. That Heavenly Host link may not be there after all. Or it could be. I don’t know what I know about that tidbit anymore.<\/p>\n

Here’s what I do know I know: three high school friends are exploring the Amare Eve Vivere Hospital as they “test” an urban legend so one of them can get more subscribers. Unfortunately, the legend know as Ayame’s Mercy is true and the girls trigger an old curse that sends them to a dark realm. They will have to avoid Ayame’s vengeful spirit and other horrors from the past while they search for a way to end the curse. Now. Forever.<\/p>\n

Players can explore the hospital halls in third-person and first-person viewpoints. The new third-person perspective compliments the visual novel-like storytelling, made more terrifying with updated visuals, gruesome descriptions, and spine-tingling audio. Corpse Party II: Darkness Distortion includes original Japanese voiceovers. There are six chapters with eight additional scenarios and plenty of Wrong Ends.<\/p>\n
